The definition of tourism is very important for the accuracy of tourism statistics. Accuracy is directly related to the assessment of the direct, indirect and induced economic impact of tourism and tourism activities, the planning and development of tourism facilities and resources, how to determine the structure of tourists and formulate marketing and promotion strategies, and identify the flow, mode and preference of tourists.
The United Nations is very concerned about the statistical work of international tourism-related information, and the "Trade and Development Conference" held in 1971 has formulated guidelines for tourism statistics.
